Man, 39, found with loaded pistol

Kwame Dauda, 39, who was arrested with a loaded pistol sometime last year at Assin Adiembra, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Circuit Court in Cape Coast and charged with “possessing pistol without authorization”.

Mrs. Florence Kai Out, the Presiding judge remanded Dauda who pleaded not guilty, into prison custody to be re-arraigned on Thursday April 5.

Chief Inspector Sarfo Khanin, presenting the facts, told the court that on January 23, last year, at about 1430 hours, the complainant Nana Mintah Abu, a Chemical Seller and the Adontenhene of Assin Adiembra near Assin Fosu was in his shop, chatting with three others including the Ankobeahene of the area Nana Kwadwo Mintah.

He said during the discussions, Dauda entered the shop to buy gentian violet and after he had been served, he dipped his hand into his pocket to pay for the drug but it took too long to bring the money out to which Nana Abu complained.

Chief Inspector Khanin said the complainant attracted the attention of the Ankobeahene who searched Dauda’s pocket and pulled out a locally manufactured pistol loaded with a live cartridge and with the help of the others in the shop Dauda was arrested and sent to the police station.**
