The Ghana Police Service has arrested 64 suspects in an operation targeting suspected criminal activities at a lounge near Achimota Mile 7 in the Greater Accra Region.

The operation was conducted by the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police (SOA), in collaboration with the National SWAT team, following complaints from residents about alleged criminal activities in and around the lounge.

According to the Police, “residents had raised concerns over the open display and possible trade in firearms at the location.

“During the operation, officers identified a blue, unregistered Acura vehicle at the scene. A pistol holster was found inside the vehicle, but no individual at the scene claimed ownership of it.”

The vehicle was subsequently impounded and conveyed to the Police Headquarters for further investigation.

Among those arrested was a man identified as Theophilus Ashon, who allegedly presented himself as a Police officer attached to CID Operations.

However, checks conducted by the Police established that Ashon was not a member of the Ghana Police Service.

“A search of his person led to the recovery of a Smith & Wesson pistol loaded with six rounds of 9mm ammunition.

“Further investigations led Police officers to Atico, where another suspect, identified as Michael Emmanuel Kingsley Mills, was arrested.”

A search of Mills' residence resulted in the recovery of three pump-action guns, four pistols, 62 AA and BB cartridges, 54 rounds of .40-calibre ammunition, and other exhibits.

The 64 suspects are currently in Police custody assisting with investigations.
