The Ghana Police Service has promoted six officers and one senior officer in a move aimed at strengthening leadership within the security service.

The ceremony, held at the National Police Headquarters in Accra on Thursday, September 3, 2026, was led by the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, with members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) in attendance.

The Service explained that the promotions were part of broader efforts to reinforce discipline and operational effectiveness, particularly in the wake of recent successes in combating violent crime.

The announcement also followed the arrest of five suspects linked to the robbery and murder of a 40-year-old gold buyer, Seth Kobina, at Agona Fie near Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region.

Addressing the media, Director-General of the Legal and Prosecution Directorate, COP Joseph Oklu Gyamera, congratulated the officers and urged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and integrity in the discharge of their duties.

“What you did actually portrays that you are not just ordinary policemen; you are policemen who are dedicated to duty, and you are always poised to ensure that the work of the Ghana Police Service is executed to the letter. You have demonstrated a very high sense of professionalism, and that is very well appreciated. We will encourage you to continue working very hard, and hard work so far as this administration is concerned will never go unrewarded,” he said.

He emphasised that the new ranks come with increased responsibility, particularly at a time when public expectations of the Police Service remain high in areas such as crime prevention, public safety and trust-building.

“That is why you have been rewarded today, and let that be an inspiration to you to work even harder and achieve higher laurels. Once again, on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, I congratulate all of you for the decoration that we have decorated you with today. Make sure, like I said, to continue working hard so that you receive greater laurels,” Gyamera added.

The ceremony, the Service said, underscored its commitment to recognising excellence and motivating officers to maintain high professional standards in line with its mandate to protect life and property.
