The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested six persons suspected to be members or associates of an organised armed robbery syndicate operating in the region.

The suspects were arrested in August 2026 by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit in Kumasi following intelligence-led operations.

The suspects have been identified as Philip Nyarko alias “Kawawa”, Hadi Samed alias “Toronto”, Issahaku Musah alias “Isak”, Suraj Mohammed alias “Baba Nde” alias “Trouble”, Hadi Abdul Majeed alias “Panie”, and Foster Owusu Afriyie alias “Joe Fraizer”.

According to the Police, in a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs Unit, Supt Godwin Ahianyo, preliminary investigations have linked the suspects to reported street robbery incidents at Kaase, Ahinsan Estate, Santasi New Site, Bronikrom, Kwadso Estate and other parts of the region.

The Police said several items suspected to be connected to the alleged robberies have been recovered, including two motorcycles, two machetes, knives, an iPhone 13, five keypad mobile phones, a laptop and 33 assorted mobile phones.

“Police investigations have so far led to the recovery of two motorcycles, two machetes, knives, an iPhone 13, five keypad mobile phones, a laptop and thirty-three (33) assorted mobile phones, among other exhibits, suspected to be connected to the criminal activities under investigation,” portions of the statement read.

Further investigations also led to the arrest of Augustine Agyemang Duah, who is suspected of helping members of the group unlock mobile phones believed to have been stolen.

The Police also revealed that Philip Nyarko, Hadi Samed and Abdul Shattar had previously been arrested on December 6, 2025, over alleged conspiracy to commit crime, robbery and attempted robbery, and were arraigned before the Asokwa Circuit Court 1 and later granted bail.

However, following their release, some of the suspects allegedly returned to criminal activities despite the case still pending before the court.

The Police said investigations after their release indicated that Abdul Shattar is currently at large, while the Police are also searching for other persons believed to be connected to the syndicate, identified as Andy, Umaru, Dauda, Malik and Abdul Farouk.

The Police have urged anyone with information on the whereabouts of the wanted persons to contact them.

“Members of the public with information on the whereabouts of these persons are urged to contact the Police and are advised not to confront or attempt to apprehend any suspect themselves,” the Police said.

Investigations are said to be ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspects’ involvement, identify other persons connected to the syndicate and recover additional stolen property.
