Ten suspected illegal miners have been arrested during an anti-illegal mining operation at Kpali, near Gbinyiri in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region.

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) conducted the operation in collaboration with the Northern Command of the Ghana Army and the Ghana Police Service.

According to a post by SIKAOFFICIAL on X on Saturday, August 29 2026, the operation took place between August 25 and 27, 2026, after a reconnaissance mission confirmed reports of illegal mining in the area.

The joint security team subsequently moved into the area, where it arrested the 10 suspects believed to be involved in illegal mining activities.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the government and security agencies to clamp down on illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, and protect the country’s forests, farmlands and water bodies.

The latest arrests come amid intensified operations against illegal mining activities across the country, with security agencies increasingly targeting areas identified as hotspots for the practice.

The suspects are expected to assist investigators as the relevant authorities determine the next steps in the case.
