The Ghana Police Service has announced the interdiction of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alhassan Malaika Jibril following the demolition of the Accra Race Course at Borteyman.

In a statement released on August 26, 2026, the Police Service indicated that the officer was interdicted after it was established that he was involved in the demolition exercise.

The decision aims to ensure an independent and thorough investigation into the incident, which has generated public outrage among sports fans and stakeholders.

“The Police Administration has interdicted DSP/Mr. Alhassan Malaika Jibril for his involvement in a demolition exercise at the Accra Race Course at Borteyman on Saturday, 22nd August 2026. The interdiction is to facilitate investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement read.

The Police Service further stated that it has initiated a probe to ascertain the facts and ultimately punish individuals found guilty of wrongdoing, ensuring justice prevails.

“The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) are investigating the matter, and anyone found culpable will be taken through the due process of the law,” the statement added.

The demolition of Accra’s only Race Course has triggered backlash from sections of the public, with many questioning the motive behind the decision as the case takes a legal turn.
