Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with an alleged attempted armed robbery on the Hiakose-Newense stretch in the Manso Nkwanta District.
The suspect, identified as Francis Nsiah, was arrested after seeking medical attention for a gunshot wound he allegedly sustained during the incident on Friday, August 7, 2026.
According to the Nkawie Divisional Police Command, its operations patrol team received a distress call at about 11:00 p.m. reporting an armed robbery in progress along the Hiakose-Newense road.
Police officers who responded to the call reportedly heard gunshots as they approached the area.
The officers subsequently spotted one of the suspected robbers fleeing into a nearby bush with a bag and gave chase.

A search of the area led to the recovery of an iPhone 14 and a bag believed to belong to some of the victims.
Police later received information that one of the suspected robbers had sought medical treatment at a health facility after sustaining a gunshot wound.
Officers proceeded to the facility, where they arrested Nsiah.
He was found to have sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his buttock and is currently receiving medical treatment under police guard.
The Nkawie Divisional Police Command says investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify and arrest other suspects believed to have been involved.
