The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested a 23-year-old woman believed to be the ringleader of an organised network producing and selling cannabis-infused drinks and ice creams at Koforidua Technical University.

Priscilla Tetteh was arrested alongside nine other young men during an intelligence-led operation conducted at the university's Students' Representative Council (SRC) Hall Week celebrations held between July 31 and August 1, 2026.

According to a statement shared by NACOC on its Facebook page on August 3, 2026, the suspects were apprehended while allegedly trading the cannabis-infused products to students and patrons at the event.

The Commission said preliminary investigations indicate that the group had established an organised operation for the production, distribution and sale of cannabis-infused drinks and ice creams on campus, posing a significant threat to public health and the safety of young people.

NACOC said the operation successfully disrupted what it described as an emerging criminal enterprise exploiting social events and educational institutions to promote the abuse of narcotic substances among the youth.

"NACOC reiterates that cannabis-infused food, beverages and other edible products containing controlled substances remain illegal. Individuals who manufacture, distribute, possess or sell such products will face the full rigours of the law," the Commission stated.

It also expressed concern over what it described as the growing trend of young people commercialising narcotic substances under the guise of entertainment and entrepreneurship.

"Educational institutions must remain centres of learning, innovation and character development, not safe havens for drug trafficking and substance abuse," the statement added.

NACOC commended its officers for their professionalism, saying intelligence gathering, surveillance and a swift operational response ensured the successful execution of the operation without incident.

The Commission pledged to intensify intelligence-led operations across the country to identify, dismantle and prosecute criminal networks involved in trafficking narcotic drugs and cannabis-infused products, particularly those targeting students and other vulnerable groups.

It further called on parents, university authorities, student leaders and the public to remain vigilant and support efforts to combat illicit drug trafficking by reporting suspected drug-related activities.

The suspects remain in NACOC custody and will be processed in accordance with the law.
