The Eastern South Regional Police Command has rounded up 258 suspects following the violent disturbances that happened at Nsawam-Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region on July 7, 2026.

The suspects were arrested during a joint intelligence-led operation carried out by the Regional Command and the National Operations Directorate.

According to a police statement issued on Friday, July 10, 2026, and signed by DSP David Fianko-Okyere of the Public Affairs Unit, Eastern South Regional Police Command, preliminary investigations indicate that the unrest involved widespread acts of vandalism and robbery.

Police said some of the suspects allegedly looted shops, set an ECG transformer on fire, vandalised the Oko Anadwo Palace and an astro turf facility, and robbed mobile money vendors.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that some youth allegedly looted shops, set fire to ECG transformer, vandalized the Oko Anadwo Palace and an astro turf facility, and robbed mobile money vendors, causing widespread fear and panic in the community,” the statement said.

Additionally, the police disclosed that locally manufactured firearms, dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, suspected tramadol and Viagra tablets, as well as several mobile phones, were recovered from the suspects when they conducted searches during the operation.

“During the operation, Police retrieved two locally manufactured firearms, quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, suspected tramadol and Viagra tablets, and several mobile phones,” it disclosed.

The suspects are currently in custody and are assisting investigators.

Police said security has been reinforced in the area to maintain law and order while investigations continue.

"The Eastern South Regional Police Command assures residents that adequate security measures remain in place to safeguard lives and property and urges anyone with information that may assist the investigation to report to the nearest Police Station," the statement added.

The Command also appealed to residents, particularly the youth, to remain peaceful and refrain from activities that could endanger public safety and security.
