The family of the late Abdul Salam and leaders of the Sheep and Goat Market at Akwatia Line have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the way police are handling investigations into his fatal shooting during a demolition exercise on April 1, 2026.

Speaking emotionally after the case was adjourned to July 10, 2026, pending a forensic audit report, the bereaved family accused the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of deliberately weakening the case and showing bias.

“We are not happy with the way the case is being handled, but we have made a lot of complaints to the divisional commander of the Zongo Division, and we've complained about the conduct and behaviour of the CID officer in charge of the case,” a family member said.

They claimed the investigating officer is trying to render the case useless.

“One thing, as a family, that we have realised is that the CID is trying to make the case useless at this stage, and so we are not happy,” they added.

The family expressed frustration over the repeated delays, noting that they keep hearing the same excuse about waiting for the forensic audit report.

“Last time, indeed, when we came, they told us the same story, that the forensic audit is what they are waiting for, and we came today and heard the same story: the forensic audit is what they are waiting for,” they lamented.

They also raised concerns about the accused person being on bail while the case drags on, contrasting it with another high-profile case.

“If you recall the case involving the immigration officer, the accused person is still in jail, on remand, whilst the investigation is still going on. So we are even surprised that he's around, going about and trying to call our witnesses, trying to convince them not even to appear in court,” the family stated.

The family further alleged irregularities in the handling of witness statements.

“A CID officer called three of our people. They wrote their statements. Then this CID officer came back and told us that the three statements were missing... When he then went back, out of the three people, he only took two people's statements to the AG and gave them to the prosecutor,” they revealed.

They appealed to the Ghana Police Service, particularly the Divisional Commander and Crime Officer, to call the investigator to order.

“As a family, we are not happy; as a family, we are not happy. We don't want to take the law into our own hands. We are citizens, and responsible citizens for that matter. We are following due process, but our silence should not be taken for granted,” they warned.

The family pledged to pursue the matter to its logical conclusion and called on the state to treat the case with the seriousness it deserves, just like the immigration officer's case.
