A prisoner at Ankaful Maximum Security Prison, Ishaku Alhassan, also known as Sule Yagani, is under investigation for allegedly masterminding the murder of Nana Serwaa Asaama Agyankomaa I, Queenmother of the Abamba Traditional Area, from behind bars.

According to a report by Crime Check TV, the incident occurred on February 25, 2026, prompting authorities at the facility to launch investigations.

Under prison regulations, inmates are only allowed supervised phone calls and scheduled visits. Personal mobile phones are strictly prohibited for both inmates and officers on duty, with screening and searches conducted to prevent contraband from entering the facility.

However, despite these strict measures, preliminary investigations have linked Ishaku Alhassan to the incident, and he is currently under investigation to determine his level of involvement.

The development has reportedly sparked outrage among prison security officials, who have warned that any inmate found culpable will face severe sanctions and possible prosecution.

Prison officers have also been cautioned that any staff found complicit will be dealt with accordingly, as part of efforts to deter misconduct within the service.

The Ghana Prisons Service has also appealed for support from the public and relevant authorities to provide scanners to improve security operations.

“Without scanners in our prisons, manual searches aimed at preventing contraband from entering will remain a mirage. The Ghana Prisons Service needs scanners!” Crime Check TV wrote on Facebook.
