A six-year-old girl has died after drowning in an uncovered septic tank at Liberty Estate in Gbetsile while reportedly looking for water.

According to a ChannelOne TV Facebook post, the sad incident happened on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

The child, identified as Abigail, fell into the uncovered septic tank while fetching water near a neighbour’s house.

"She accidentally fell into the uncovered septic tank and drowned before help could reach her," residents said.

The tragic incident has left the community devastated, with many residents blaming the persistent lack of reliable and clean water in the area.

Locals have expressed that children frequently move from house to house in search of water, putting them at significant risk.

“This beautiful soul has been lost simply because there is no water,” lamented a resident.

In response to the tragedy, community members are urging authorities to urgently address the water crisis and implement stricter safety measures to ensure hazardous structures like septic tanks are properly covered and secured.

The tragic incident has sparked widespread concern, with residents demanding immediate action to improve access to water and prevent such occurrences in the future.
