A two-and-a-half-year-old boy who went missing in Assin Awiafitaamu has been found dead after five days of search efforts by his family and residents.

According to a myjoyonline.com report on May 20, 2026, the child, identified as Nana Yaw, disappeared on May 13, 2026.

He was left at home with his two siblings when his grandmother went to the farm in the Assin North District of the Central Region.

News of his disappearance sparked an extensive search across Assin Awiafitaamu and nearby communities.

Local information centres also made announcements, urging residents to provide any information about his whereabouts.

The family was unable to locate him and reported the case to the police on May 15 through his grandfather, Godwin Tettey Amanor.

On May 17, 2026, at about 4:39 p.m., the search ended in tragedy when hunters from Assin Kushea found the boy’s body in a thicket while hunting with their dogs.

“The hunters had gone into the bush on a hunting expedition when the dogs led them to the spot where the body was found,” the report stated.

The body was discovered near a settlement belonging to a man known as Papa Magye.

The hunters alerted residents, who informed the family before the police were notified.

Residents say the discovery has left the community in shock and mourning after days of hope for a positive outcome.

The police say the cause of death is not yet known and have indicated that investigations are ongoing to determine what happened to the toddler.
