The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has issued a strong warning to criminals across the country to abandon their illegal activities or face intensified police action.
According to the IGP, the Ghana Police Service has strengthened its intelligence and operational strategies to clamp down on criminal activities and ensure the safety of citizens.
Speaking to the media on May 19, 2026, after the Mobile Money Advocacy Group Ghana (MOMAG) honoured him with a plaque and citation in recognition of his efforts in fighting crime, Christian Tetteh Yohuno stated that the police would not relent in pursuing criminals wherever they may be hiding.
“We want to sound a strong warning to criminals that we will not give up. We want to make sure that we protect Ghanaians in general. For that matter, they should lay down their arms and stop committing crimes because whatever they do and wherever they hide, in this modern era of policing, they can run but they cannot hide,” he said.

The IGP also advised members of the public not to risk their lives when confronted by armed robbers or criminals.
According to him, personal belongings can be replaced, but lives cannot.
“All that we are saying to Ghanaians is that if you are attacked by any criminal, whatever they want from you, just give it to them. We do not want anybody struggling with criminals when they are confronted anywhere.
“If it is your mobile phone they want, let them take it. If it is your laptop, money, or even your car, let them take it because your life is more precious than those items. But they should know that after taking those things, they cannot hide because the security agencies will come after them,” he stressed.

The IGP also expressed gratitude to the Mobile Money Advocacy Group Ghana for recognising the efforts of the police service.
“From the entire Ghana Police Service, from the last policeman in the remotest part of this country, I say thank you very much to the MOMAG group for this wonderful gesture,” he added.
Meanwhile, the President of the Mobile Money Advocacy Group Ghana, Edward Ofori-Agyemang, commended the Ghana Police Service for its commitment to fighting crime, particularly crimes targeting mobile money vendors.
He noted that the group decided to honour the police service with a plaque, citation, and 100 packs of bottled water due to the successes chalked up by the service under the leadership of the IGP.
“We have seen the good work that the Ghana Police Service is doing under the leadership of the IGP, Christian Tetteh Yohuno. The intelligence systems they have put in place to curb robberies targeting citizens and mobile money agents are commendable,” he stated.
Edward Ofori-Agyemang cited recent robbery cases in Kumasi and Tema Community 5, where police officers successfully arrested suspects involved in attacks on mobile money vendors.

He also praised the police service for dealing decisively with a police officer allegedly linked to a robbery incident.
“We are happy with the good work. For example, what happened last year in Kumasi, the police were able to arrest those criminals. Also, in Tema Community 5, the police arrested and even neutralised robbers who attacked and shot a mobile money vendor.
“Recently too, a police officer was implicated in a robbery case, and we commend the IGP and the Ghana Police Service for not shielding their own,” he added.
