Court orders lawyers to produce man accused of threatening customs officer

Court orders man who threatened a customs officer to appear on March 16, 2026

Horgli Wise Roland has been ordered by Justice Rosemary Abena Gyimah of the Madina District Court to appear on March 16, 2026, over allegations of threatening a customs officer and obstructing the lawful inspection of his luggage.

The directive follows Roland’s failure to appear in court despite being duly served with summons.

The court described his absence at the previous sitting as unacceptable and instructed his lawyers to take responsibility for ensuring his presence on the next adjourned date.

The prosecution’s case stems from an incident on February 15, 2025, at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.

Roland is accused of obstructing Revenue Officer Torgbe Agbeti Dordoe of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) while the officer conducted a lawful search of his luggage.

According to Officer Torgbe’s formal complaint, Roland resisted the clearance process and issued serious threats against his life.

He stated, “During the clearance process, passenger Wise Roland Horgli threatened my life by stating that he would use Nima Boys to attack me outside my workplace. He obstructed my lawful duty and verbally assaulted me, as can be seen on captured CCTV footage.”

The complaint further alleges that the threats escalated, with Roland invoking alleged connections within the Customs hierarchy in an attempt to intimidate the officer.

“The passenger threatened to attack me outside my office using Nima Boys. He also threatened to leverage his network with Customs Top Management to have me interdicted and eventually sacked, fabricating stories against me because I insisted on examining his six packages,” he stated.

Officer Torgbe reported the incident to the Airport Police Station, where a case docket was prepared. He expressed concern that, despite lodging a successful complaint, the case had not progressed, prompting him to request the court’s intervention

“I respectfully request, under section 61 of Act 30, 1960, that the court use its jurisdictional power to ensure Wise Roland Horgli is brought to face the law for his unlawful conduct, as the case has been retained without seeing the light of day in court,” he noted.

The court has adjourned the case to March 16, 2026, when it expects Roland to respond to the charges, as it continues to emphasise 2026, accountability, and respect for lawful authority.
