The Ghana Police Service has arrested a Nigerian national in connection with a dawn robbery at Spintex in Accra, during which large sums of cash, gold jewelry, and other valuables were taken from a 35-year-old man.

According to the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, the robbery occurred in the early hours of September 14, 2025.

“On 14th September 2025, the Ghana Police Service received a report of a robbery at the residence of a 35-year-old man at Spintex in Accra. COP Donkor noted that police officers recovered several items believed to have been used or left behind by the suspects during a visit to the crime scene.

“Police officers visited the scene, where a machete, a metal cutter, and a T-shirt believed to have been left behind by the suspects were retrieved for evidential purposes,” she disclosed.

The suspect, identified as Jennifer Nweke, was reportedly arrested at Adenta in Accra. A search conducted at the time of her arrest led to the recovery of some of the stolen property.

Police said the items retrieved included jewelry, mobile phones, and large sums of cash believed to have been taken during the robbery.

“The crime scene was documented, and investigations commenced immediately. On 18 September 2025, acting on reliable intelligence, the police arrested a suspect, a Nigerian national named Jennifer Nweke, at Adenta.

“A search conducted revealed some of the stolen items, including jewelry, mobile phones, and large sums of cash. The suspect later led investigators to a hideout at Agbogba, where additional stolen items belonging to the complainant were retrieved,” COP Donkor added.

She said the suspect further cooperated with investigators and led them to other locations where more items were hidden.

“During interrogations, the suspect later led the police to Glefe, a suburb near Dansoman Last Stop, where a bag containing one Philippine passport and two ladies’ purses with business and ATM cards was retrieved,” she indicated.

She added that “a wrapped black polythene bag containing travelling documents was also found near a rubbish dump close to a second place of abode.”

Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects linked to the robbery.

“Strenuous efforts are currently underway to trace and arrest other suspects who are on the run to face justice,” the CID Director-General said.
