Police arrest three suspects in connection with baby theft in Tamale

The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the theft of a baby at One Heart Hospital in Tamale.

This was contained in a statement signed by Chief Inspector Alhassan Luckman Niendow, Public Relations Officer, Northern Regional Police Command, and issued to the press in Tamale on Sunday evening.

The statement said, “The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Northern Regional Police Command on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at about 10:30am, received a complaint of baby theft at One Heart Hospital, located at Lamashegu, a suburb of Tamale.”

It said, “Preliminary reports indicate that a lady disguised as a nurse of the facility, visited the labour ward and picked the newly born baby boy belonging to the complainant’s sister under the pretext of going to administer an injection.”

It said, “Police have since arrested suspects Abubakari Fatima Bintu, Grace Asiedu Mensah, both of whom are nurses and were on duty at the facility together with Abukari Iddi, the security guard on duty at the time of the incident to assist with investigations.”

The statement said, “Intelligence operations are underway to find the baby and arrest other suspects involved.”
