At least 10 people were injured on Sunday afternoon following a fire outbreak at Ritz Junction in Madina, which escalated into chaos after an armed man allegedly opened fire on bystanders.
In an adomonline.com report on August 4, 2025, it said one of the victims, Ernest Opare, who is currently receiving treatment at the Pentecost Hospital, along with four others, confirmed the incident.
He said he sustained bullet wounds to his forehead, back, and buttocks.
According to Opare, the gunman, identified only as Area, appeared at the scene in a furious state and brandished a pump-action gun.
“In the full view of police and fire officers, Area began shooting indiscriminately at people and into the air,” he recounted, the report said.
He accused the police present of failing to act, alleging they did not intervene or arrest the suspect despite witnessing the attack.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
Meanwhile, the fire caused widespread destruction, burning down more than 50 wooden structures and metal containers, and displacing several residents.
The blaze reportedly started at a washing bay.
Officers from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), led by personnel from the Madina Fire Station, responded swiftly and worked to bring the flames under control.
Authorities are, however, yet to issue an official statement on the shooting incident.
