Family members arrested for dealing in Indian hemp

Kadadwen (W/R), Nov. 24, GNA - The Tarkwa Police has arrested a 41 year man, James Essien, his wife Deborah Cudjoe, 36, and daughter Diana Essien, 19, for possessing and selling dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. Briefing the media at Tarkwa on Wednesday, Police Chief Superintendent Kwadwo Antwi-Tabi, said between 0530 and 0600 hours on November 24, the divisional police, as part of its "Operation Fish-out," and upon a tip-off invaded the home of Essien and searched it.

Commander Antwi-Tabi said in the process seven polythene bags filled with dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and one jerry can of Akepeteshie mixed with dried leaves were found. He said James admitted ownership of the items and said he received his supplies from Sefwi Wiawso. He said the police would send the suspects to court and also send the exhibits for analysis and testing. 24 Nov. 10
