40-year-old man butchered and set ablaze in Bawku

Bawku (U/E), April 6, GNA - Unidentified assailants at Giangande in the Bawku Municipality on Tuesday afternoon at about 1300 hours butchered and=

set ablaze, Mr Mumuni Haruna, a 40-year-old Mamprusi man, who uses his motorbike to carry passengers (Okada). Mr Haruna was believed to have sent a passenger to Giangande, a predominantly Kussasi area, and was picked upon after the passenger had alighted.

Kwaku Boadu Peperah told the GNA that the victim might have been killed w= ith cutlasses or axes before petrol was poured on the body and set ablaze. He said the body has been deposited at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital= .. There has been no arrest. Police investigations are ongoing. Coming as it were after last Thursday's incident, during which for unexplained reasons a mob pounced on two Kussasi men and lynched one of t= hem near the Widana Station, a predominantly Mamprusi area, Tuesday's inciden= t could well be a reprisal.

In another development, an unidentified assailant on Tuesday morning shot Mrs Grace Butiace, a 60-year-old Frafra woman, who is married to a Mamprusi, in the arm at the new Bawku Lorry Park. No arrest has been made. Police investigations are ongoing, Chief Superintendent Peperah said.
