Kumasi, March 25, GNA - Kofi Ampofo, 26 was on Thursday remanded by a Kumasi Circuit Court for stealing items worth GH¢15,000 belonging to his in-law. Ampofo pleaded guilty with the charge and promised to lead the Police to the persons he sold the items to for retrieval. He would reappear on April 3, 2008. Sergeant Awo Dede, the Prosecutor told the court presided over by Mr. Ernest Yao Obimpeh that, the complainant in the case, is the wife of the accused person's brother living abroad. She said in 2007, the complainant's husband shipped a VW Transporter vehicle which has in it, freezers, sound systems and fax machines.
Sergeant Dede said the accused was later sent to Tema Harbour to clear of the goods but failed to return them. She said on May 13, 2007 at about 1700 hours, the complainant found the accused with a bandage around one of his arms and when asked about the whereabouts of the goods, he said he was involved in an accident on his way to Kumasi and in the process lost the items. Sergeant Dede said, Ampofo told the complainant that when he was conveying the items to Kumasi, their vehicle knocked down a bicycle rider and a mob attacked him where they stole the goods. She said the complainant, who was not convinced with the accused story, handed him over to the police and in his caution statement, he confessed selling the items at GH¢1,500.
