man arested with cocaine on Aflao-Accra highway

Dabala (V/R), Aug 3, GNA -Customs officers on Wednesday arrested one Richard Nyarko, 27, with two parcels suspected to be Cocaine at their checkpoint at Dabala, near Sogakope on the Aflao-Accra highway. The suspect, who was arrested during a routine check, has been sent to Accra for further investigations, sources close to the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) told the Ghana News Agency on Thursday.

The sources said Nyarko confessed that the parcels, wrapped in brown paper and retrieved from his bag, contained cocaine and that they were given to him by a Nigerian called Uche at Aflao to deliver to either a Sarpong or Opoku in Accra.

He said he did not them either of them.

He reportedly said he was promised a commission of 500 dollars upon safe delivery of the parcels, estimated to have a street value of 20,000 dollars.

Nyarko claimed Uche gave him 200 dollars, which was found on him at the time of the arrest.
