Victim causes arrest of swindler

Tema, Aug. 11, GNA - A 49-year-old electrician, who teamed up with another man to defraud a female teacher of 2 million cedis, is in the grips of the Tema Police.

The suspect, Benjamin Kuma was arrested, when he unknowingly boarded the same vehicle with the victim from Accra to Tema, who raised an alarm.

A statement signed by the Tema Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Yaw Nketia-Yeboah, said the victim on April 10, this year, at about 1030 hours cashed 2 million cedis from her bank at Tema Community One.
The statement said, when the victim came out of the bank, Kuma immediately engaged her in a conversation, insisting that she was his customer.
It said another man then joined them and narrated a fatal abortion experience to her with tears in his eyes and as her attention shifted to him, Kuma snatched her bag containing the money, car keys and other personal effects and escaped into the market.
On August 3, this year at about 1100 hours, the victim was on a 207 Benz bus from Accra to Tema, when she spotted Kuma in the same vehicle narrating a sad story to a woman, she alerted the driver and the passengers, who arrested him to the Ministries Police Station.
When he was searched, the victim's car keys and newspapers folded like Bank notes (currency) were found on him, the statement added. Kuma has since been transferred to the Tema Police and charged for stealing.
