Unlicensed vehicle kills 58-year old woman

Akwatia, (E/R) July 5, GNA - A 58-year-old woman, Abena Twumwaa of Akyem Kwaamang, seller of herbal drugs, met her death at Akwatia on Thursday morning when a vehicle, driven by a carpenter without driving experience knocked her down, killing her instantly. The vehicle then veered off the road and smashed into the chapel of the Ebenezer Baptist Church, damaging the building. Emmanuel Ambaahikpieng, 24, a carpenter of Wilhelm Limited, a contracting firm re-constructing the Akwatia-Boadua road is reported to have taken the vehicle with registration number GR 2065 W without the knowledge and consent of the the driver. Meanwhile, the body of Madam Twumwaa has been deposited at the mortuary of St. Dominic's Hospital, Akwatia for autopsy, while Ambaahikpieng is helping the Akwatia Police in their investigations. Colleagues of Ambaahikpieng expressed shock and surprise at his conduct since they claimed that they have never known him to have ever driven a vehicle. The colleagues of Ambaahikpieng said he took over the pick-up when the driver parked it by the roadside where there were engaged in the construction of a drain as part of the road construction. A family spokesman said Madam Twumwaa who was on a visit to relatives at Akwatia was due to return to Akyem Kwamang on Wednesday but decided to postpone her departure to Thursday when the incident happened.
