Unemployed steals from Cocoa Affairs Courts

Accra June 14, GNA - A 29-year-old unemployed, who took advantage of the heavy downpour on June 9, and managed to steal a typewriter from the Cocoa Affairs Court on Wednesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court. Kweku Oduro charged with unlawful entry and stealing, however, started behaving abnormally when he was asked to mount the dock for his plea to be taken.

Oduro, who pleaded not guilty, admitted entering the Court premises. His behaviour did not catch the eye of the court so it remanded him into prison custody to reappear on June 21. Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Margaret Awuni told the court that the complainant Mr Rahimi Akiwumi is the night watchman at the Cocoa Affairs Court, Accra.

Chief Inspector Awuni said on June 9, 2006, at about 2130 hours, there was a heavy rainfall and while patrolling the court premises, he saw five gentlemen standing in front of the typing pool but they took to their heels leaving the accused person behind. When Mr Akiwumi got closer to the typing pool he found Oduro in the room with one Olivetti Linea 98 typing machine.
