One Kwabena Asare, unemployed, was on Thursday sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court for robbing one Bernice Hoedzoade of her Samsung mobile phone worth GH? 850.00.

Kwabena pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbery but was found guilty by the Court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri.

Prosecuting Police Inspector Martin Acheampong said the complainant is a student of Regent University College and resides at Ashaley Botwe while the convict resides at Ashaley Botwe.

He said on March 20, at about 2130 hours, the complainant went for choir practice at the Madina EP Church and on her way home at a spot along the road she had a call.

The prosecution said while attending to the phone call the convict emerged from the dark, attacked her and snatched her Samsung Galaxy S2 mobile phone from her.

Inspector Acheampong said in the process of snatching the bag, Kwabena bit her on the right thumb and fled the scene.

He said the complainant raised the alarm and with the assistance of some people from the neighbourhood the convict was arrested with the mobile phone and handed over to the Nmai-Dzorn police patrol team who were on duty in the area.

He said the complainant then made a report to the police and was issued with a medical form which she used to attend hospital for treatment.

Police Inspector, Acheampong said the convict in his caution statement admitted the offence, saying that he has been longing to use a Windows operating mobile phone, hence his action.
