Unemployed fined GH¢370 for stealing

Kumasi, Feb 11, GNA - A 32-year-old unemployed has been sentenced to a f= ine of GH¢370.00 by the Ash-Town District Court One for snatching two cell phones and cash of GH¢100.00 from a sales representative of the Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN). Samuel Owusu Antwi would serve three months in jail if he fails to pa= y the fine.

Police Chief Inspector Mark Agyemang told the court presided over by Mr Solomon Achinah that the crime was committed on January 16 at about 0800 hours. He said Mr Godwin Oduro Firiko was heading for his workplace when he met the convict who asked that he directed him to where he could get spare pa= rts for a corn mill.

As he tried to explain to him that he could not be of help another youn= g man, now on the run, emerged and held Firiko tightly, while Antwi forcibl= y removed the phones and cash from the pocket. He said the complainant raised the alarm and with the assistance of s= ome people, arrested and handed over the convict to the Railways Police but h= is accomplice escaped.
