Two truck-pushers jailed over wee

Two truck-pushers will spend the next 10 years of their lives in prison after they were sentenced by an Accra Circuit Court.

The convicts, Osmanu Amadu and Suleman Ayuba, all truck-pushers, were arraigned before the court on charges of possessing narcotics without legal authority. Although the two pleaded not guilty, the court, presided over by Francis Obiri, found them guilty.

The prosecutor, DSP Reindorf Agyemang stated that on November 30, 2011 at about 11.30pm, the James Town District Police Command, upon a tip-off embarked on operation at Ayalolo cluster of schools in Accra to arrest drug peddlers.

The team, he indicated, raided an uncompleted storey building of the school and found the duo, Osmanu Amadu and Suleman Ayuba aged 29 and 28 respectively, in one of the rooms on the first floor.

The police reportedly retrieved Indian hemp wrapped in a cement paper, a pair of scissors, two boxes of safety matches, a lighter and cash of GHC11.00 from Osmanu Amadu while Indian hemp concealed in black polythene bag and an amount of GHC2.25 were also retrieved from Suleman Ayuba.

The two were subsequently arrested and the exhibits were forwarded to the police forensic science laboratory for examination and it was tested positive.
