Two suspects believed to be members of a robbery syndicate behind recent violent attacks in Nkaseim have been arrested by the Ahafo Regional Police Command.

According to the Police, the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation targeting the syndicate, which reportedly consists of about 12 members. The group had previously launched a violent attack on the Nkaseim Police Station in the Asutifi South District, seizing weapons and freeing a suspect from custody before carrying out a series of robberies in the community.

The robbers stormed the police station at around 5:15 p.m., demanding access to the armoury. The officer on duty initially misdirected them, which angered the attackers. She later led them to the armoury, where they seized firearms.

Following the attack on the police station, the syndicate proceeded to a gold shop, stole an unspecified amount of money, raided a cocoa purchasing station, robbed the Asutifi Rural Bank, and assaulted a mobile money vendor, taking GH¢12,000. Armed with pump-action guns, the robbers also shot and wounded one person in the thigh. The victim received treatment at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Hwidiem and has since been discharged.

In response to the attacks, the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohunu, deployed a special anti-robbery team from the National Police Headquarters to support the Ahafo Regional Command in pursuing the remaining suspects.

The violent incidents, which have gone viral on social media, have left residents shocked and prompted renewed calls for stronger security measures in the area.
