Two police personnel under investigation for assault

Agona Swedru, July 19, GNA - The Swedru Divisional Police are investigating a case in which Sergeant Margaret Bosompimwah and Constable Adjaho of the Swedru district police station are alleged to have assaulted a trader at Agona Swedru

Mr W K. Mortty, Divisional Crime Officer, told the GNA that the alleged assault on Mrs Josephine Yeboah led to the miscarriage of her three-month-old pregnancy.

Speaking in an interview, the Divisional Crime Officer said about two months ago, Mrs Yeboah went to the Swedru District Police Station to make a report against her Landlord when the alleged incident occurred. Mr Mortty who took over from Mr Mark Tata who has been transferred to the Police Headquarters in Accra this month told the GNA that he would need time to study the docket.

akotoHe said, however, that the complainant and the two police personnel had appeared before him and other officers.

According to the Crime Officer, Mrs Yeboah alleged that the Policewoman ordered Constable Adjaho to arrest her after they had refused to take down her complaint against the Landlord.

Mr Mortty said the complainant alleged that Sergeant Margaret Bosompimwah slapped her on the check after Constable Adjaho had arrested and sent her back to Charge Office before she was locked in cells. The complainant said she started bleeding after severe beatings and had to be rushed to the Swedru Government Hospital where she was operated to remove the conception.
