Two persons remanded for stealing goat

Mankranso (Ash), Jan 27, GNA- Mankranso magistrate court has remanded two persons into prison custody for conspiring to steal a goat valued at 500,000 cedis at Tepa in the Ahafo Ano North district of the Ashanti Region.

Philemond Opong 18, unemployed and Kingsford Ajorgu 17, a JSS student, pleaded not guilty and would re-appear before the court on February 17, this year.

Chief Inspector Prosper Yao Aheto told the court presided over by Mr Frank Owusu-Afriyie that on January 17 at about 5.30 am, Mr Emmanuel Amponsah, the complainant, detected that one of his goats was missing. He said while searching for the goat, the complainant saw some faeces of a goat in front of Oppong's house..

The prosecutor said the complainant knowing Oppong to be a noted thief in the town informed the police and the accused together with Ajorgu were arrested on suspicion.

A search later in Oppong's room revealed a silver pan full of meat and some white goat furs in a dustbin.

He said a fianc=E9e of Oppong also confessed that the accused and three others slaughtered a white sheep and invited her to take part but she refused.

Chief Inspector Aheto said the accused persons were therefore charged with the offence while a bench warrant was issued to arrest the two accomplices who are at large.
