Two men have been sentenced to a combined 30 years in prison with hard labour for conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.
According to graphic.com.gh, the convicts, Nicholas Tetteh and Joseph Tetteh, received 15 years’ imprisonment each from the Gbetsile Circuit Court, presided over by Eleanor Kakra Barns Botchway, after pleading guilty to the charge of robbery.
A police statement signed by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Police Command, confirmed that the convictions stemmed from a robbery and rape incident that occurred on September 27, 2025, at Okushibli, along the Apollonia–Afienya road.
According to the statement, the two men sexually assaulted a 19-year-old hairdresser after dragging her into a bush and robbing her of an iPhone XR and a handbag containing GH¢150.
The victim had reportedly hired Nicholas Tetteh, a motor rider, to transport her to Afienya.
However, along the way, Tetteh conspired with two others, including Joseph Tetteh, to attack her.
The case was reported to the Zenu-Atadeka District Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), leading to the arrest and charging of the suspects with robbery and rape.
Following an intelligence-led operation, the two were apprehended, arraigned, and subsequently convicted after pleading guilty to the robbery charge before the Gbetsile Circuit Court.
The police further indicated that the suspects will be arraigned on the rape charge once advice is received from the Attorney General’s Office, which is currently reviewing the docket.
ASP Dzakpasu assured the public of the police’s continued commitment to securing justice for the victim and maintaining public safety.
She emphasised that the conviction reflects the Tema Police Command’s resolve to tackle serious crimes in the region.
