Two Teachers Convicted For Examination Malpractices

Nkwanta (V/R), June 12, GNA - Two teachers of the New Life Preparatory School at Nkwanta in the Volta Region have been convicted by an Nkwanta Magistrate court to a fine of 300 Ghana cedis each for engaging in examination malpractices in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) recently at Nkwanta. Edmund Obinserewuo and Samuel Adjei pleaded guilty and would serve 12 months in prison in hard labour in default. The court presided over by Mr Stephen Akortia bonded the convicts to be of good behaviour in the next 24 months or face additional 24 months imprisonment in default.

Obinserewuo and Adjei are further sanctioned from nearing any examination centre in the subsequent 36 months or in default serve 36 months in hard labour jail term. Police Inspector Jonathan Kodjoe told the court that Mr Christian Asuma, West African Examination Council's official in-charge of Nkwanta District, saw the two teachers with scripts within the precincts of the examination hall prior to the commencement of the Agriculture Paper Two on April 22. He said the scripts matched up with the legitimate papers to be written leading to their arrest. Mr Kodjoe said the teachers admitted their crime in their caution statements to the Police but refused to disclose the source of the leaked papers.
