Two Suspected murderers remanded in custody

Agona Swedru, Dec 14, GNA - Yaw Agbenyo, a fetish priest who murdered his former wife at Mensakrom, and his friend Senagbe Dodzi have been remanded in prison custody by the Agona Swedru Circuit Court on provisional murder charges.

Agbenyo alleged that Senagbe Dodzi, 35, brought a man whom he murdered about two years ago. Their pleas were not taken and they will reappear on January 16, 2007.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent Police Fredrick Martey told the court that on December 01, the deceased Madam Afisah Salami, came to Mensakrom to collect 250,000 cedis to pay the medical bills of their three-year-old son.

When the deceased presented the bill to the former husband he said he could afford 100,000 cedis but the woman disagreed and this degenerated into a quarrel. During the misunderstanding Dodzi, Agbenyo's friend, appealed to the fetish priest to pay the money in full but Agbenyo got angry and Dodzi left.

Mr Martey told the court that Agbenyo warned Salami to leave the house else he would use a cutlass on her but she insisted on collecting the 250,000 cedis.

The prosecution said Agbenyo claimed after the woman had hit him with a piece of stick he replied by murdering her. Three days later when the women had not returned, her relatives came to Mensakrom and asked Agbenyo of her but he denied knowledge of her whereabouts.

The prosecution said the relatives later heard that the former husband had murdered the woman so they reported the matter to the police.
