Truck pusher remanded for murder

Accra, Sept. 14, GNA - Nii Nyanyo Agoe Tsuru, a 34-year-old truck pusher who allegedly murdered his girlfriend with a coal pot at La in Accra, on Thursday appeared before the La District Magistrate's Court provisionally charged with murder.

The Court did not take Tsuru's plea and remanded him into Police custody to reappear on October 16.

Tsuru is said have murdered Berikisu Jumah Ayiitah, 34, on Tuesday following a confrontation between them. The body of Barikisu has been deposited the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital awaiting autopsy. Speaking to the GNA, Assistant Superintendent of Police Adane-Ameyaw Nyamekeye, the La District Police Commander, said investigations were underway.

The Police said they were hunting for Doris Tsotoo, another alleged girlfriend of Tsuru.

Police said reports reaching them indicated that a there was scuffle between Barikisu and Tsotoo over Tsuru and the suspect allegedly supported Tsotoo. Police said the suspect told them that the deceased, who had been living with him for the past three years, claimed a lady who came looking for him to cart some goods for her was his girlfriend. This generated into a scuffle and the deceased picked up a coal pot to hit his head. He retaliated by hitting her twice with the same coal pot.

The deceased fell down and bled from the cut on her neck. When a team of Policemen reached the scene they found the deceased lying in a supine position with her throat slit and another deep cut on her shoulders.
