Traffic offenders in Bolgatanga arrested

Bolgatanga, Sept. 6, GNA - One hundred and twenty motorists in Bolgatanga are to be put before court for riding without helmets at the weekend.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Robert A. Adenyak, Upper East Deputy Regional Commander of Police disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after a swoop on the offenders at the weekend. ACP Adenyak said the Regional Police Administration was determined to instill discipline on the roads to minimise accidents in the region. He said during the first quarter of the year, motorbikes alone caused 48 accidents.

He said those arrested were to be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to other motorists.

He noted that sufficient notice was given to the public on the current exercise but motorists were just adamant. When GNA contacted some of the arrested motorists, Mr Francis Andeeba, Headmaster of Gbeogo School of the Deaf, said the exercise was right but pleaded for leniency.
