Trader charged for defiling girl, 4

Amokwei Quaye, a 35-year- old trader who gave money to a four-year-old pupil to buy rice and later lured her into a nearby bush and defiled her was on Tuesday arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court.

The accused, charged for defilement, pleaded not guilty and was remanded and would reappear on March 26.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarah Acquah said the victim lives with the grandmother at Ablekuma whilst the accused who is a trader also lives in the same vicinity.

She said on February 9 the grandmother bought some rice for the victim to eat but she refused to eat the rice because she claimed the food was not sufficient for her.

She said a tenant in the house gave the victim some money to buy the rice herself and she (victim) showed the money to the grandmother and went out to buy the rice at about 1830 hours.

ASP Acquah said the grandmother waited for the victim but she was not coming and so started searching for her.

She said at about 2010 hours someone saw the victim coming from a nearby bush crying and when she was questioned, she stated the accused lured her into the bush and defiled her.

A report was made to the Police and the accused was arrested.
