An 18 year-old driver from Breman Brakwa in the Central Region has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment in hard labour by a Cape Coast Circuit Court for defiling a 14 year-old girl.

Elijah Amoaning pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement and was sentenced on his own plea.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Paul Peter Amoah told the Court, presided over by Ms. Sedina Agbemava, that the complainant, Madam Abena Afuah, who was the victim’s mother, lived in the same vicinity with Elijah at Breman Brakwa.

He said about three months ago, Madam Afuah discovered that Elijah was having sexual relationships with the victim and warned him to desist from it but he did not listen.

On Friday, February 12 this year, Madam Afuah reported the case to Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Breman Asikuma where the Police Medical Report form was issued to her to take the victim to the hospital for examination.

A week after, while investigations were ongoing, Elijah lured the victim to his room and had sex with her again, the Prosecutor said, therefore, when Madam Afuah had information that the victim was in Elijah’s room, she reported the matter to Police and he was arrested.

A signed medical report by doctors confirmed that the girl’s virginity had been broken.

Chief Inspector Amoah said Elijah admitted the offence during Police’s interrogation.
