Teacher fined for threatening

Nkwanta, 29 April, GNA - Gbande Faal, alias Fanta, a teacher at the Nkwanta Senior High School, has been sentenced to a fine of GH 300 by an Nkwanta Magistrates' Court for threat of death. Faal, who pleaded guilty to the charge, was convicted accordingly and would serve in default of the fine, a 12-month jail term in hard labour. He has also been bonded to be of good behaviour within the specified period of 12 months.

Mr John Antwi, Police Chief Inspector, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Mr Stephen Akortia that, the complainant, who operates a drinking spot at Nkwanta, confronted Faal, who was then drinking at an adjoining spot for casting insinuations against her. He said this resulted into a misunderstanding between them, after which Faal left the scene.

Mr Antwi said Faal reappeared with an egg, which he struck on the ground in front of the complainant's spot, threatening with words to wit "you Serwaa, I break this egg invoking a fetish to kill you anytime you cross the main road."

He said the complainant, who became scared, reported Faal's conduct for an arbitration, which failed to reach a settlement. Mr Antwi said the incident was consequently reported to the police and Faal was arrested, charged, prosecuted and convicted. 29 April 10
