Tamale Police arrest four suspected armed robbers

Tamale, Oct. 11, GNA - The Tamale Police have arrested four suspected armed robbers who allegedly shot at a Hyundai pick-up, wounding the driver and killing his wife instantly, at Achiri Yili, a village near Salaga.

The Northern Region Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Geoffrey Adu-Amankwah, who confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale on Wednesday, mentioned the deceased as Andaratu Mohammed.

He said the suspects were of Fulani extraction but did not give their names 93for security reasons=94. He indicated, however, that they would soon be arraigned.

Shagbah Mohammed, 35, the driver and his 23 passengers, including his late wife, were returning to Salaga from Tamale when they were attacked.

Inspector Adu-Amankwah said Mohammed refused to obey an order from the armed robbers to stop, resulting in the shooting. He said the robbers bolted, leaving behind 11 spent shells, before police got to the scene.

He said with the support of the residents, the police arrested the four suspects, adding that life cartridges and a single barrel gun were found at their hideout.

Inspector Adu-Amankwah commended the community members for acting swiftly to apprehend the suspects. He however warned against meting out instant justice to suspected criminals.
