Suspected iron rod thief's right hand chopped off

Kwesimintsim (W/R), Nov 22, GNA - A 32-year-old farmer, Kofi Badu, had his right hand hacked off for allegedly stealing five pieces of iron rods at Mpaatado near, Takoradi.

The victim had been admitted at the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital and the severed hand had been buried.

Confirming the incident to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Kwesimintsim on Monday the District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ayamga Yakubu, said the victim was dragged to the police station on November 20 by two persons, Kofi Mensah and Albert Yawson. He said the two told the police that Badu stole the iron rods at a building project they were working on and in the process of running away with the materials Kofi Mensah slashed off the hand of the victim. The victim denied the accusation when interrogated and told the police that he went to the project site to look for his mother. The District Police Commander indicated that Kofi Mensah would be put before the court for causing harm.
