The body of a young man in his mid-30s has been found hanging on a tree near the Regional Maritime University in Accra.

The deceased, who was yet to be identified, was found squatting under the tree with a piece of cloth around his neck.

It is however, not clear if he committed the act himself or somebody might have killed him and subsequently hanged him on the tree.

An eyewitness account indicated that there were no marks of assault on the deceased’s body neither were there any traces of waste mater like urine or faeces discovered on him, as is often the case in most suicide cases where the death is by hanging.

The Sakumono police are making efforts to locate the family to assist them to investigate the matter.

A resident in the area first spotted the lifeless body of the man under the tree in the early hours of Wednesday and informed the Sakumono District Police Command.

The body has since been removed and deposited at the Police Hospital for preservation and autopsy.
The Accra Regional police Public Relations Officer, ASP Effia Tenge, told DAILY GUIDE that the police were still investigating circumstances surrounding the death of the man.

She said following the report from the resident in the area, the police proceeded to the scene and found a man with his neck tied to a tree in the bush near the Regional Maritime University.

She said the clothes of the man were intact and after careful examination of the body, the police did not find any assault marks on it.

The deceased was wearing a blue and white shirt over a blue pair of khaki trousers. The police have appealed to the public to help trace his family in order to properly investigate the incident.
