A student who is accused of defiling a 15-year old girl at James Town on Wednesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.

Charged with defilement, Hayford Kophi Oppong, 19, has pleaded not guilty. The victim is, however, pregnant.

Oppong is said to have had sex with the victim after offering her a drink. The victim felt dizzy and slept.

The Court presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin Doku remanded him into Police custody to reappear on February 29.

Prosecuting Detective Inspector Kofi Atimbire said the accused lived at James Town. Both the accused and victim had been friends. On October 15, last year, at about 0930 the accused person called the victim on phone and gave her directions to come to his house.

On reaching the accused person’s house, he (accused) offered the victim a drink and after drinking it, she felt dizzy and slept.

The accused had sexual intercourse with the victim on his bed.

Prosecution said when the victim woke up; the accused person saw her off.

The victim, however, on reaching the house experienced abdominal pains, and saw blood stains in her pants. She, therefore, called the accused demanding from him what he (accused) had done to her.

Oppong admitted having sex with the victim.

Prosecution said when the victim went to school, authorities detected that she was pregnant and so she was sent home.

The victim then disclosed her ordeal to her father who lodged a complainant with the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU), which apprehended Oppong.

The complainant took the victim to the Police Hospital for examination.
