Student remanded for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl

Kumasi, Aug. 20, GNA - The Kumasi Metropolitan Court on Wednesday remanded Alhassan Osman, a student into prison custody for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl. Osman pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on August 26. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Wilfred Salia told the court presided over by Mr Adjei Frimpong that the accused and victim lived at Akorem, a suburb of Kumasi. He said on August 14, this year, at about 1230 hours, the victim who visited her grandmother at Tafo was returning home when she met Osman's cousin who lured her into Osman's room where she was given some toffee and jollof rice.

Police Chief Inspector Salia said the victim became unconscious after eating until the following day when she woke up at 0830 hours and realised her underwear and the bedspread were stained with blood, indicating that she had been defiled. He said the victim informed her mother immediately she reached home and a report was made to the Domestic Violence and Victims' Support Unit (DOVVU) where she was issued with a police medical report form to receive treatment at the hospital. Police Chief Inspector Salia said the medical form endorsed by a medical practitioner proved that the victim had been defiled and accused was arrested. He said Osman admitted in his caution statement that he took the victim to his room but denied defiling her and after investigations charged with the offence. Counsel for the accused in applying for bail said the victim was older than the age stated on the docket and fianc=E9e of the accused.
