Spiritualist, two others assault woman, 71

Ajumako (C/R), May 2, GNA - The Ajumako District Magistrate Court has remanded in prison custody three accused persons for deliberately and intentionally assaulting and causing harm to a 71-year-old woman, Madam Akua Bentuwa at Breman Essiam.

They are Kojo Kuma, 24, a mason; Kofi Essel, 20, a driver's mate and Kwesi Annor, 23, a self-style spiritualist. They would reappear on May 11, this year. The presiding judge Mr Kwesi Boakye Enimil revoked the previous bail granted them after Madam Akua Bentuwa had told the court how the three tortured her and inflicted wounds on her without any provocation.

She said Annor accused her of being a witch and that she should come to his spiritual camp and confess her sins which she refused. The three accused persons then attacked her and mercilessly beat her u= p.

Later in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, the District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Policd Seth Tay warned people in the district to desist from such act of lawlessness and irresponsible behaviour in the area, adding that anyone caught would be prosecuted.
