Police in Kumasi have launched an investigation into the tragic death of a six-year-old girl, identified as Lidaya, whose body was discovered in a parked vehicle at Suame Market on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, days after she was reported missing.
According to the girl’s father, Mahmud, Lidaya was last seen around the market but could not be found when her mother returned from the mosque.
Despite an extensive search, including checks on vehicles at a nearby fitting shop, the girl remained missing until traders detected a foul smell emanating from a parked vehicle, leading to the discovery of her lifeless body.
Speaking to local media, Mahmud expressed his grief and suspicion of foul play, stating, “The mother went to the mosque and came back, but our daughter was nowhere to be found. We searched everywhere, even checking all the vehicles at the fitting shop, but she was missing.
"Sadly, we have now identified her body. We suspect foul play because it is baffling that she wasn’t found in the vehicles initially but was later discovered there. This could be a calculated plot. But we leave everything to God.”
According to a report by asaaseradio.com, the Suame Police have cordoned off the scene and are questioning witnesses as part of their ongoing investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding Lidaya’s death.
The girl’s body has been deposited at a local mortuary for an autopsy to establish the cause of death.
