Six suspects have been apprehended by the Western Central Regional Police Command in connection with illegal mining operations at Bepoakyi, near Dompim in the Western Region.
The arrest was made on April 23, 2025, as part of the ongoing anti-galamsey operations.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Desmond Boampong, Western Central Regional Police Commander, disclosed this during a press conference in Tarkwa.
The suspects are Justice Tetteh, Michael Anche, Bismark Gyimah, Ramzy Amoah, Michael Attivor, and Emmanuel Andoh.
DCOP Boampong explained that the police retrieved five excavators from the suspects. The equipment is currently in police custody at Dompim, awaiting evacuation to the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly.
He added that the six suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations, and assured the public that the crackdown on illegal mining will continue unabated in order to preserve the country's natural resources.
