Six fine for unlawful hunting

Awutu Beraku (C/R), May 4, GNA - Three leaders of group hunters and three drivers were on Tuesday fined 300,000 Cedis each by an Awutu Beraku magistrate's court when they appeared before it. The hunters are Richard Blebo, Bernard Busanga and Isaa Amedu all from Kasoa.

Kofi Mohammed, Kwamena Lawrence, both from Kasoa and Otchere Kwamena from Accra, were the drivers.

They all pleaded guilty for unlawful hunting and abetment of crime. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector S. Gand told the court presided over by Mr Charles Wilson that on April 28, 2005, the accused persons and over fifty others now at large were arrested in a police operation at Gomoa Ekutsi Junction, undertaking group hunting. He said the activities had been ban following its negative effect on the environment.

The court ordered that the two short guns seized from the group be handed over to their owners after the police had certified that they were covered with proper documents.
