The Registrar of the Scholarship Secretariat, Alexander Kwaku Asafo-Agyei, has revealed that several arrests of offenders have been made at the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Kwabena Owusu Boateng on OTEC FM's Morning show, he explained that he is not making those claims just to chase media clouts, adding that arrests have been made to ensure the system is cleanse.

"Ghanaians would have to know how their taxes were extended like the American Lottery, which is unfair. Some NPP members even call me to intervene, because their family members are suffering because of compounded debt owed by the scholarship secretariat," Asafo-Agyei bitterly stated.

He emphasised that he would not embark on such expose if he would do the same at the secretariat.

Buttressing his claims, he provided documents and reports from the Secretariat showing numerous corrupt acts that transpired in the previous administration, reiterating his outfit's commitment to ensuring offenders are brought to book.

Citing an audit report, Asafo-Agyei said that the previous government administration's sponsorship of short courses was given priority over normal academic programs, citing that it undermines the Secretariat's primary mission.

He further clarified that the Secretariat is not mandated to bear the cost of dependents who accompany beneficiaries abroad.

However, he alleged that his predecessor illegally sponsored dependents and paid them monthly stipends, in direct abuse of office.

Additionally, Asafo-Agyei said that certain personnel of President Akufo-Addo's administration received authorization letters for 10-year visas to enroll in two-week short courses.
