Sales supervisor granted 120,000 cedis bail

A sales supervisor, Nathaniel Akumani, has been granted bail in the sum of 120,000 Ghana Cedis by a Tarkwa circuit court for stealing 116,813.37 Ghana cedis belonging to Sametro Company Limited.

He pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on November 19.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant, John Armstrong Asabil Etroo, is the financial manager of Sametro Company Limited, while the accused is in charge of the Samreboi branch of the same company.

He said the company had been supplying the accused with scratch cards, cell phone modems and other MTN products to sell.

According to the prosecutor, in May the company audited the stock of the accused person and found out that he could not account for products valued 31,533.71 Ghana cedis which he had sold.

Chief Inspector Amponsah said Akumani pleaded with the company to allow him to work and pay the money after refunding 10,000 Ghana Cedis.

The Prosecutor said on September 2, Mr Diawuo informed the accused person to make himself available for another audit exercise to be undertaken but when the internal auditor got to the branch office the next day, he found out that the accused person had locked the office and bolted with the keys.

He said a report was made to the Police and the accused was arrested on September 9.

Chief Inspector Amponsah said on September 12 an internal audited report revealed that the accused person had sold products totaling 116,813.37 Ghana Cedis but could not account for the money.

The Prosecutor said the Police retrieved 5,000 Ghana Cedis from the accused person and paid it into the company’s account.

He said during investigations, Akumani told the Police that he sold some of the products to his customers on credit but when he was given time to retrieve the money he failed to do so.

Chief Inspector Amponsah said after investigations he was charged with the offence.
